Become a CCDS Leader
Governance in professional associations is a system for decision-making, oversight, and accountability to the membership and the mission of the Society with leadership comprised of members who are selected to lead and shape the future of the organization. Serving on the CCDS executive committee, as an officer, is one of the many ways you can give back to your association and profession. CCDS’s success depends on a diverse group of leaders from different cohorts, practice models, and practice specialties who:
- Are open to the ideas and opinions of others
- Are committed to meeting attendance (remote and in person)
- Work well with other volunteers and staff
- Participate in thoughtful discussions
- Will work in good faith with Society management and other board members as partners towards achievement of CCDS goals
- Always act in the best interests of the Society and represent the interests of all people served by the Society
- Serve as Society ambassadors, recruiting new members and leaders

CCDS Executive Board:
- Applications and up to 3-page CV accepted March 15-June 1.
- If selected, terms begin January 1, 2025.
CCDS Delegate/Alternate Delegate to CDA:
- Applications accepted annually, December 1 to February 15.

Officer Job Descriptions
Alternate Delegate
It shall be the duty of Alternate Delegates:
- They shall attend caucuses of the Society and Reference Committee Hearings pertaining to the business of the House of Delegates unless excused by the President of the Society.
- They shall be prepared to fill vacancies of delegates of this Society at sessions of the House of Delegates when designated by the President of the Society.
BCR - CCDS Representative
It shall be the duty of the BCR - CCDS Representative to the CDA Board of Component Representatives:
- Shall attend each regular meeting and any special meeting of the California Dental Association Board of Component Representatives.
- Shall represent this Society’s perspectives at CDA on issues of membership, component leadership development and governance, and other issues of shared importance to serving members.
- Shall consider proposals and vote on recommendations, for final approval by the CDA board or house.
- Shall consider the board of directors’ slate of candidates, to approve or provide an alternate slate for final 1010 election by the CDA board.
- Shall serve as an advisory committee to the house, to include reviewing component resolutions and providing input to the author(s) to shape the final recommendation and enhance the effectiveness of house discussions.
- Discuss and share best practices amongst components.
- Shall make regular reports to his activities to the Board of this Society and to the general membership when deemed necessary by the Board.
- Shall report a possible absence from a session of the Board of Component Representatives of to the President of the Central Coast Dental Society. The President shall nominate a member of the component who will attend the meeting in question and report back to the Board of their actions.
Delegate
It shall be the duty of Delegates:
- They shall attend all sessions of the House of Delegates of the California Dental Association.
- They shall attend caucuses and Reference Committee hearings pertaining to the business of the House of Delegates.
- They shall recognize the membership of this Society in its thinking at all sessions of the House of Delegates.
- They shall recognize the President of this Society as the Chairman of the delegation and be responsible to him in carrying out their assignments.
- They shall report the actions of the House of Delegates to the membership of the Society at the next regular meeting following the House of Delegates Session.
- If a Delegate is unable to serve, he shall notify the President of the Society in adequate time to have an alternate assigned to his seat.
Editor
It shall be the duty of the Editor:
- To edit and publish all matter pertaining to the Bulletin of this Society which shall be authorized by the Board of Directors.
- To retain copies of all material published.
- To be Chairman of the Bulletin Committee.
- To be an ex-officio member of all committees without the right to vote.
- To deliver all papers, books and records pertaining to his office, to his successor at the expiration of his term of office.
Members-At-Large
North – San Luis Obispo County – north of the Cuesta Grade
- Representative at-large for members who practice in SLO County north of the Cuesta Grade
Central - San Luis Obispo County - below the grade
- Representative at-large for members who practice in SLO County south of the Cuesta Grade
South – Santa Barbara County - Cities of Santa Maria/Guadalupe
- Representative at-large for members who practice in SB County in the cities of Santa Maria and Guadalupe
President-Elect
It shall be the duty of the President-Elect:
- To assist the President in the performance of his duties.
- To serve as chairman of the committee to organize and conduct the general membership meetings which will occur during this tenure as President.
- To serve as a voting member of the Board.
- To exercise the powers and functions of the President in his absence.
- Shall be a delegate elected for a two-year term to the California Dental Society House of Delegates if a Delegate position is available.
Secretary-Treasurer
It shall be the duty of the Secretary:
- To assist the President as required.
- To serve as a voting member of the Board.
- To serve as recording officer of the Board of Directors and as custodian of its records and to cause a record of the proceedings of the Board of Directors to be published for the membership.
- To notify all members of their appointments to committees and to furnish necessary copies of resolutions, etc., referred to them.
- To countersign all certificates, citations and testimonials and to certify with the President to all official acts of the Society.
- To conduct all correspondence for the Society and report to the Board at each session of the Board of Directors.
- To notify the California Dental Association of the names of the officers of the Society within ten days after their election and installation.
- To notify the members of all regular meetings at least a week prior thereto.
- To notify all members of applications for membership giving the full name and address of all applicants.
- To notify the Executive Director of the California Dental Association of the election of new members, giving their correct names, addresses and records.
- To notify the Executive Director of the California Dental Association of all persons resigning from the Society with the dates of resignation.
- To notify the Executive Director of the California Dental Association of all deceased members and all transfers of membership.
It shall be the duty of the Treasurer:
- To deliver all papers, books and records pertaining to his office, to his successor at the expiration of his term of office.
- To serve as the chief financial officer of the Society, subject to the direction of the Board of Directors.
- To keep an account showing all receipts and disbursements and make a monthly report to the Board of Directors.
- To make a full and detailed report of the finances of the Society at the annual meeting and to deliver to his successor all funds, papers and books in his possession, belonging to the Society.
- To notify the Board of any expenditures over the budget not included in the budget.
- To receive and disburse all monies of the Society.
- To establish financial feasibility for all expenditures.
